Instrument-based Vision Screening

Vision loss from amblyopia (lazy eye) affects 4.5 million children in the US. The American Academy of Pediatrics endorsed the use of automated instrument-based vision screening in a recent policy statement published in Pediatrics. Our office has invested in this technology for our patients offering instrument-based vision screening as part of our preventative "well-child" exams starting at 6 months of age.

Below is an example of what "SPOT" Vision Screener from Welch Allyn can detect and display:

"SPOT" detects these potential common vision problems:

*Myopia (nearsightedness)

*Hyperopia (farsightedness)

*Astigmatism (blurred vision)

*Anisometropia (unequal power)

*Strabismus (eye misalignment)

*Anisocoria (unequal pupil size)
