Breastfeeding Support Groups

Breastfeeding support groups are a great way to meet other mothers similarly situated with the task of successfully breastfeading your new child.  Our certified lactation counselor offers support groups for those interested in participating.

Research has shown that belonging to a breastfeeding support group can lead to many benefits, including:

  1. Decreased anxiety and feelings of frustration which lead to increased self-confidence while breastfeeding
  2. Achievement of your breastfeeding goals
  3. Increased duration of breastfeeding
  4. Decreased early and/or unplanned weaning from the breast

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for the first year of life, but according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only about 75% of babies in the US were ever breastfed and only 25% of those infants were breastfeeding at 1 year of age.

What better way to promote the recommendation of breastfeeding than by surrounding yourself with the support of other breastfeeding women?  Call our office for support group times and availability.
