After Hours and Telephone Care Policy

We realize that children become ill at all times of the day and night.  For urgent concerns after the office closes, simply leave a message on the office voicemail, and one of our providers will call you back.  We reserve the right to charge for after hours calls as supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics.  Please review our policy letter for after hours and telephone care by clicking the document below.

Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 if your child:

  • ate or drank something he or she shouldn't
  • ate or drank a known poison

Call 911 if your child is:

  • not breathing or turning blue or grey in color
  • choking
  • unconscious
  • having a seizure
  • bleeding profusely
  • having a severe allergic reaction

If it is not an emergency, please call our office during normal business hours.  A good rule of thumb to determine if your concern warrants a call to your pediatrician after hours is if you are contemplating taking your child to an emergency room.  Requests for antibiotics, prescription refills, and acetaminophen or ibuprofen dosing are not appropriate after hour calls.
